Retaliatory attack of Iran on Israel

On 1 April 2024, an airstrike allegedly by Israel according to Iran destroyed the Iranian consulate annex building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria. It killed16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and seven other IRGC officers. The IRGC also stressed in his statement that:

Legitimacy of retaliatory attack:

The Holy Qur'an, as the first source of Islamic law, has considered defense as a legitimate right of Muslims and has emphasized it in various places. Here are two verses as examples:

Quran:

The Holly Quran as the main source of Islamic law, in Surah al-Baqara, verse 194 says:

If any one aggresses against you, so aggress against him with the likeness of that which he has aggressed against you.[3]

The Quran also says in Surah Haj, verse 39:

Permission (to fight) is given to those upon whom war is made because they are oppressed, and most surely Allah is well able to assist them.[4]
